Lights, Camera, Diaspora! is proud to return to MultiChoice Talent Factory for 3rd time. This year team member Tamu Bakr taught lighting and camera classes for 2 weeks each in MTF Southern (Lusaka, Zambia), MTF West (Lagos, Nigeria), and MTF East (Nairobi, Kenya). The classes featured Tamu sharing 30 years of experience in film and television with the MultiChoice Talent Factory Cohort. As the large international streaming networks setup shop in Sub-Saharan Africa, such skills transfer is more valuable than ever. Empowering young, talented filmmakers is necessary for the current growth trend to continue.
Tamu also had the responsibility to lead 2 masterclasses in the process. MultiChoice Talent Factory Masterclass programme, a series of industry-led workshops aimed to upskill and empower established professionals across Africa’s film and TV industries.

Tamu is a very accomplished lighting professional based in NY. He has worked extensively a Rigging Gaffer - Orange is The New Black, Power, Nurse Jackie, Ray Donovan. As Best Boy - 30 Rock, Girls. As a Set Lighting Technician - Kate & Leopold, American Gangster, Men in Black II & III, Batman, Boardwalk Empire, Mr. & Mrs. Smith. And for Networks and streamers including HBO, NBC, CBS, Netflix. He is very excited to return to the Continent and share his experience with MTF cohorts.

The MultiChoice Talent Factory is MultiChoice Africa’s year-long immersion programme focused on training young emerging film and TV creatives from across three regions and 13 countries in Africa. Established in 2018, MultiChoice Talent Factory has academies in Nairobi, Lagos and Zambia and provides 60 students with a fully funded 12-month academic and immersive training experience under the guidance of industry experts.
